Abstract
The aim of this article is to analyze and etymologically study the various aspects of the naming of Kazerun in the historical periods of Iran, from the culture, language, and literature of Ilam to the present day, which still exist in the culture and folk literature of the natives of Kazerun. The findings of this study show that Kazerun County, with a history of five thousand years, has played a role in the history of Iranian civilization, and most Iranian historical and folkloristic researchers have referred to Gazergah, Gazran, Balad al-Atiqi, Sadeh, Damietta al-Ajam, Kohzaran, Shahr Sabz, Shahr Kohneh, Shahr Salman, Kazerun, Ka-Zarvan, etc. regarding the origin of Kazerun's naming; but none of them have addressed the ancient/ethnographic aspects of Kazerun based on cultural-mythological documents and place names. Recently, a clay seal and a coin from the Sassanid Empire were discovered in the Seyfabad district of Kazerun, on which the word Partik Kazerun was inscribed, and this document reveals the scientific adequacy of the name Kazerun during the Sassanid period. However, the question still remains as to what was the reason for the naming of Kazerun during the Sassanid period? This article, with a folk/artistic archaeology approach, argues that the name Kazerun is derived from the mythical phrase "Geosh Orun" and has transformed over time into Geoshorvan, Gesrun, Gocholon, Kasekan, Gujran, Kazerun, and Kazerun. The research method was library, documentary, and field; participatory observation, interviews with local experts, and qualitative content analysis were also used.
