Morphology of Lorestan's Divination Rituals Based on David Hume's Theory of Association of Idias

As part of popular culture, prophecy plays a significant role in organizing the worldview and reducing anxiety caused by an uncertain future. This research aims to identify the roots of prophecy rituals in the culture of the people of Lorestan using a descriptive-analytical method. The main research questions focused on identifying the relationship between the mentality of the fortune-seeker and the fortune, as well as the role of myth and religion in these rituals. The research findings show that Lorestan prophecies are based on two main foundations: 1- Psychological methods of associating meanings: A large part of these rituals, such as "chicken lying down " to welcome a guest or "scratching the palm of the hand" to receive or pay money, use associative patterns including similarity, contrast, cause and effect, proximity, and coincidence to link objective phenomena to future events and create a believable meaning for them. 2- Ancient mythological and religious foundations: Many omens, such as considering foxes and roosters as auspicious and owls and jackals as inauspicious, are remnants of Zoroastrian beliefs that have changed or persisted over time and under the influence of the conflicting religious discourses.
