The Beloved’s Image in the Local Poetry of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province, Focusing on the Obstacles to Reunion

Abstract
One of the most important key concepts in Luri poetry is the beloved (yar), whose beauty and description of physical and moral traits form central themes and motifs among local poets. Words related to love, the beloved, the lover, separation, longing, obstacles to union, and rivals take on deeper meaning within the nomadic environment among towering mountains, green slopes, and vast springtime plains. The image of the beloved in Luri poetry reflects qualities like bravery, boldness, and chivalry, similar to the beloved portrayed in Persian ghazals. Moreover, the musical tone of Luri poetry, shaped by the hardships and disappointments of both love and life, is often more melancholic and sorrowful, expressing a longing for the joyful past. This study examines the image of the beloved through descriptions of physical features (eyes, eyebrows, height, lips, face) and behaviors (indifference, cruelty, coquettishness, gestures), along with metaphorical names such as berno, shelal, shkal, and karah shekal. It also explores the natural and unnatural obstacles that prevent union with the beloved. The authors aim to show, by focusing on the aesthetic aspects of the beloved in local poems, the importance of love and romance in the cultural life of the Luri people.
