Folk literature, as a fertile ground for the perpetuation of myths, plays a fundamental role in the reproduction of identity and symbolic systems among Iranian ethnic groups. One of the lesser-known rituals in this domain is Ker-e Dāvet in the culture of the Delfān tribe (located in the western Zagros region of Iran), which still finds meaning in an inseparable connection with oral narratives and the lifeworld of the natives. Adopting an ethnographic approach and relying on in-depth interviews with local narrators, participatory observation, and the lived experience of a member of the Delfān tribe, this study investigates the mythico-ritual structure of Ker-e Dāvet. The central question is how the mythical narrative of "Dāvet" manifests itself in a practical ritual (drawing Ker) and what roles symbols such as the circle, the numbers three and seven, and the horse play in the transmission of meaning. The findings indicate that this ritual, in addition to its therapeutic-defensive function against terrifying forces (such as demons/jinn), see," drawing a sacred boundary between the safe human world and the invisible realm of evil. Analyzing the data within the framework of the myth-ritual theory demonstrates that Ker-e Dāvet is a salient example of the metamorphosis of myth into a living and efficient ritual, which, while reducing collective anxiety, facilitates intra-group cohesion and the reproduction of Delfān's ethnic identity. By documenting this intangible cultural heritage of Zagros, the article emphasizes the necessity of protecting indigenous knowledge systems within the context of folkloric and literary studies.
