The present study examines this change and transformation from the perspective of cultural anthropology, and the main question of the study is what cultural phenomena Dev in Azerbaijani myths explains from anthropological perspectives and what cultural requirements it was based on<span style="font-size: 11.0pt; line-height: 115%; font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif; mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-fareast-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-language: FA;">.<span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%; font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif; mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-fareast-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-language: FA;">This research, using a descriptive-analytical method based on the examination of the main characteristics and roles of demons in Azerbaijani written folktales, and employing a library-based data collection method, aims to understand and analyze the culture of Azerbaijani people. The findings suggest that elements such as the culture of forced marriage, male-dominated culture, culture of combat and heroism, vigilance against enemies and avoiding deception, culture of fatalism, the value of pure love, and cultural development with regard to the intellectual and visionary growth of the people over time have influenced the nature of demons in their folklore. According to functionalist perspectives in anthropology, these cultural aspects illustrate the conditions and temperaments of the people of that society and clarify their cultural identity. دیوها در افسانه‌های آذربایجان، گاه مظهر شر و بدی و ستمکاری هستند که از لحاظ بدنی قدرتمندند و بر انسان پیروز و غالب‌اند و گاه در برخی موقعیت‌ها، انسان یا به‌لحاظ توان و نیروی بدنی یا به‌لحاظ ذکاوت و هوش آن‌ها را مغلوب می‌کند. پژوهش حاضر این تغییر و تحول را از منظر انسان‌شناسی فرهنگی بررسی می‌کند و سؤال اصلی پژوهش این است که دیو در افسانه‌های آذربایجان از نظرگاه‌های انسان‌شناسی توضیح‌دهندۀ چه پدیده‌های فرهنگی است و براساس کدام مقتضیات فرهنگی به‌وجود آمده است. این پژوهش با روش توصیفی ـ تحلیلی مبتنی بر بررسی شخصیت دیو در افسانه‌های مکتوب آذربایجان با روش گردآوری داده‌ها به صورت کتابخانه‌ای به شناخت و تحلیل فرهنگ مردم آذربایجان پرداخته و به نتایجی از این دست رسیده است که براساس نظرگاه‌های کارکردگرایی مالینوفسکی، فرهنگ ازدواج اجباری، فرهنگ مردسالاری، فرهنگ رزم و حماسه و هوشیاری در برابر دشمن و دفع فریب‌خوردگی، فرهنگ تقدیرگرایی، فرهنگ ارزشمندی عشق پاک و نیز توسعه‌یافتگی فرهنگی با عنایت به رشد فکری و بینشی مردم طی دوران، در شکل‌گیری شخصیت دیو در افسانه‌هایشان تأثیرگذار بوده و این وجوه فرهنگی بیانگر احوال و خلقیات مردم آن جامعه و روشنگر هویت فرهنگی‌شان است.
